21st Century

I created this page to tell the world the moral values that i got in Sinigang and how it affects me as a 21st Century learner.

This story is about Liza and her father who have an affair and committed adultery with a woman named Sylvia. She also have a half brother named Lem that happened to die due to leukemia. For me this short story wants to show the reader on how cheating affects the entire family specially the relationship between the father and his child.

I realized that adultery is wrong because it involves breaking one of the most serious promises a person can make. It weakens the institutions of marriage and family. It tends to deceit and breaks honesty and trust that’s why cheating is considered morally wrong, in sex and in other matters because it violates the ethical standard of reciprocity and fairness.

This short story taught me a lot of moral values that affects me as a 21st Century learner.

Don’t be selfish, be considerate

We shouldn’t only think about ourself but also about the sake of other people because in every action or decision we made, can have a big impact on other people’s lives. They can get hurt as well because they care about us. Considering how they feel can help us to think first whether something is right or wrong.

Truth and Honesty

In this story, i learned how important it is to stay honest. I realized that once we covered the truth or once we lied about something, we’re just putting ourselves in a much complicated situation. Everyone of us deserves to know the truth even if it will turn out to hurt us because at the end of the day it is true that the truth will give us freedom, there’s no situation will be settled if we kept on lying and fooling other people.

Be responsible and stay faithful

Husband/Wife, it is your duty to stay faithful to your spouse as you promised to be there for each other when you married. Dissatisfaction, shortcoming or any reason wouldn’t be enough for someone to cheat, commit an affair or adultery. As a man or woman don’t let something makes you happy now be the cause of the suffering of someone you’ve loved before.

Trust and respect

Never break someone’s trust. Be a trustworthy person. When trust is broke it will be extremely hard to restore it. Broken trust results to doubts, confusion, and hanging questions. If you break someone’s trust never expect them to respect you because how will someone respect you if she/he knows that you’re a liar, that you’re not trustworthy.

Infidelity and adultery doesn’t only destroy husband and wife relationship. It destroy the whole family specially the relationship between a parent and a child. Just like how Liza’s good relationship to her father fade because she found out about her fathers affair.

In terms of Liza and Sylvia, i realized that Forgiveness and acceptance takes time. It is something that is not easily given.
